Women in Flex: A Candid Chat with the Organisers

The flexible workspace industry is evolving rapidly, but like many industries, it still has work to do when it comes to gender diversity and inclusion. That’s why technologywithin launched Women in Flex, a new initiative dedicated to supporting, connecting, and empowering women in the flex space industry. 

Mary Nolan, Director of Marketing at technologywithin explains why Women in Flex was created, the challenges women face in the industry, and what’s next for this growing community.  

Why was the Women in Flex group launched?

While there are plenty of fantastic initiatives supporting women in the wider real estate sector, we noticed a gap in the flexible workspace industry. Many women—especially those new to flex—struggle to find the right advice, mentorship, and career development opportunities. From our own experience and conversations with others in the sector, it became clear that more could be done to amplify women’s voices, foster connections, and create leadership opportunities. 

Women in Flex is designed to fill that gap by providing a supportive network, mentorship opportunities, and a platform for women to share their experiences. 

What are some of the biggest challenges women face in the flex space industry?

There are a few key challenges that keep coming up in conversations with women across the sector: 

Lack of Representation at Senior Levels

While there are many talented women in flex, leadership roles are still largely male-dominated. We need more visible role models so that women entering the industry can see a clear path to leadership. 

Networking & Mentorship Gaps

Many women tell us they’re unsure where to turn for career guidance or how to build the right professional connections. That’s why Women in Flex focuses on creating mentorship opportunities and a strong support network. 

Confidence & Imposter Syndrome

It’s common for women to doubt their expertise or hesitate to put themselves forward for promotions or speaking opportunities. Women in Flex aims to change the conversation and empower women to own their success.

Women in Flex is more than just a one-time event—it’s a community. Here’s what we offer:

Tell us about the event on March 6th. What can attendees look forward to?

We’re so excited to kick things off with our Women in Flex x GCUC UK event on March 6th, 2025, at Myo St Paul’s in London. It’s going to be a fantastic evening of conversation, connection, and inspiration. 

We have two powerhouse panels featuring some of the most successful women in flex, covering topics like: 

• Lessons from the Ladder – Insights from women who have climbed to leadership positions in the flex space. 

• Breaking In – Advice for women early in their careers, tackling imposter syndrome, finding mentors, and making their mark. 

We want attendees to leave feeling inspired, supported, and ready to take the next step in their careers.

What’s next for Women in Flex? Any plans for expansion?

Our goal is to build a strong, supportive network of women in flex across Europe. While the initiative launched in London, we’re already planning events in major cities across Europe. Women in Flex is just getting started, and we’re excited to see how this community evolves.
